Mastering Brow Pigmentology: The Key to Perfect Brows

Welcome to our newsletter, where we dive into the world of brow pigmentology. Today, we’ll explore the nuances of pigment bases, the reasons behind their variations, and how to select the perfect pigment base for each client.

Understanding Pigment Bases

Permanent makeup artists work with a spectrum of brown shades to create gorgeous brows. Modern brown pigments are composed of three primary colors: red, yellow, and black. The final shade of any pigment, as well as its base, is determined by the ratio of these colors. There are three primary bases to consider: yellow, orange, and red. The warmth or coolness of a pigment is adjusted by tweaking these color ratios, ensuring a perfect match for different skin prototypes.

How to Choose the Right Pigment Base

Selecting the right pigment base is crucial and depends on the natural pigment deficiency in your client's skin. Our skin contains three key pigments that define its colour: carotene, hemoglobin, and melanin. The goal is to balance the skin’s tone by adding the pigment it lacks.

For example:

  • Olive-toned skin: typically high in melanin and carotene, making it best suited for red-based pigments like those in the ‘By Olga Kostinetskaya’ line. (ADD SEPARATE LINK TO THIS LINE WHEN IT WILL BE READY. FOR NOW ALL BROW PIGMENTS ON HANAFY.COM ARE IN THE SAME PLACE, HERE https://hanafy.com/collections/eyebrow-pigments )

  • Dark skin with red or purple undertones: high in melanin and hemoglobin but low in carotene. These clients will benefit most from yellow or, preferably, orange-based pigments found in the ‘Hairstrokes’ line. (LINK)

  • Fair European skin: usually has high levels of hemoglobin but is low in melanin and carotene. The yellow-based pigments from the main Hanafy eyebrows line (LINK) are ideal here.

In general, the main line (LINK) is the most versatile, offering an excellent base for most skin types. If a shade seems too cool for a client, you can warm it up with a corrector to achieve the perfect hue.
