A Cheat Sheet for Correctors in Permanent Makeup

A Cheat Sheet for Correctors in Permanent Makeup

Hi, colleagues!

At Hanafy, we work with pigments every day, and we know that sometimes using a corrector in permanent makeup is a must. So today, we’re sharing a quick guide on how to use correctors properly. These tips will help you take your work to the next level!

So, What Are the Main Uses for Correctors?

Neutralizing Unwanted Shades

The Itten Colour Wheel helps us correctly choose the colour for neutralizing unwanted shades.

Colours that are opposite each other on the wheel neutralize each other when mixed. This principle is key when working with correctors and covering up old pigments in permanent makeup.

❗️Remember, cover-ups should only be done if there’s little old pigment left in the skin and it’s not too bright. Otherwise, a removal procedure is necessary❗️

Warming Up Shades

Adding a warm corrector (like orange) to your main pigment helps to make the pigment less cool and reduces the chances of cool tones appearing after healing.

Preparing for the Main Pigment Application

In some cases, correctors are used as a base layer under the main pigment. For example, on areas with remnants of old pigments, apply the corrector first to neutralize the colour, followed by the main pigment. This method is also perfect for working with dark lips—correct the dark areas first, then perform the classic PMU procedure over the entire lip surface using the desired shade.

Using correctors requires experience and a good understanding of colour theory, so learning from professionals is important. At Hanafy, we recommend the online masterclass on colour theory and pigmentology by the brand’s founder, Olga Hanafy. In this course, she pays special attention to correcting unwanted shades and using Itten’s colour wheel in practice, ensuring your work always looks its best.

Thank you for choosing Hanafy—we’re here to support you every step of your professional journey!
